A song for the ascent to Jerusalem.
1 Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.
2 Just as the mountains surround and protect Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds and protects his people, both now and forever.
3 The wicked will not rule the godly, for then the godly might be forced to do wrong.
4 O LORD, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.
5 But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD. Take them away with those who do evil. And let Israel have quietness and peace.
God's marvelous plan of redemption for Israel and for all of His people rings out in the Psalms. The picture in verse 2 of God "surrounding" His people now and forevermore, is beautifully depicted in Zechariah 2:5
"For I, myself, will be a wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD. And I will be the glory inside the city!"
Right here and now God's Word tells us that He is a shield round about us;
"The LORD is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving." (Ps. 28:7)
He is your shield, burst out in songs of thanksgiving!
LORD, I picture You as a shield of protection round about me, keeping me from harm, now and forevermore. I praise You for Your great love for me!
